Huntington Beach is one of my favorite beaches along the South Carolina coast – and it’s just a hop, skip, and a jump (across the marsh… but thankfully there is a land bridge) from Highway 17. It costs $5 to get into the park – and another $2 if you want to tour the fascinating Atalaya Castle. And if you happen to be in the neighborhood in late September, then you might want to take in the Atalaya Arts and Crafts Festival – it’s one of the most beautiful settings that one could do a little shopping in! Huntington Beach is definitely a good reason to detour off of Highway 17 for a few hours – it really is a wonderful place.
