I’m a huge fan of Pollocksville, North Carolina – I think it has the most photogenic house on Highway 17 on its Main Street – isn’t this house just lovely? And what about the old Strawbridge Antiques store and the Town Hall and Depot? Gorgeous places.
But then there’s also the Broken Spoke Biker Church on the corner of Main Street (Highway 17) and Pollock Street – and if color is what you want, you can’t beat this place on Main Street. And don’t forget to dip your toes in the Trent River (I did) and shop for treasures… and perhaps catch a church service at Lee’s Chapel (just south of town) that has the most welcoming sign I’ve ever seen anywhere.
So why…. did I not go to the Trent Restaurant while I was in Pollocksville? It was mid-day and I had all of the time in the world, and it was my mistake. I’ll have to head back up that way and try them out… and in the meantime, here’s a few things I’ve read about them:
Our State says that you shouldn’t miss the fried catfish and fried okra. Sounds like the peach cobbler (during peach season) is pretty wonderful too.
I love what this review, at Off-the-Map Eastern North Carolina Restaurants had to say: “The one thing I love about it is when you walk in, every single person, at every single table, greets you and asks you how you are doing.”
