What is it about motels in the middle of nowhere – and even more so, their signs – that I just love? I imagine the stories – stories of when the place was busier, or wondering if in the fall, did folks fill up the place while traveling to see autumn color in the Shenandoah and Blue Ridge mountains. I always hope that these places have a busy season, a season where folks see the sign, pull over and get a room for the night while on the way to somewhere else.
The Mountain View Motel is on the John Mosby Highway, or Highway 17 North / US 50 – and it just north of the Henry Flood Byrd Bridge over the Shenandoah River and a bit south of Winchester. It’s not far from Paris, Virginia – on the other side of the Blue Ridge, at the each of the Shenandoah Valley. It’s in a gorgeous location.
