The 2011 Dunleavy’s Polar Bear Plunge

Looking for something to do on New Year’s Day?  Well, if you find yourself on Highway 17 around Mt. Pleasant or Charleston, South Carolina – then there is nothing more fun than the Dunleavy’s Polar Bear Plunge to benefit the Special Olympics.  A short documentary (via thethompkins channel on You Tube) on the annual Polar Bear Swim will give you a head’s up for what you’re in for – in 2011, over 2000 people ran into the 47 degree water of the Atlantic Ocean water and the event raised more than $30,000 for the South Carolina Special Olympics.  About 10 years ago I made the plunge… and it was a blast!
