 Awendaw Creek Canoe Launch

At Rosa Green Rd and Highway 17 North, between Mt Pleasant, SC and McClellanville, SC, you’ll come across a sign for the Awendaw Creek Canoe Launch.  After going down Rosa Green Rd for a half mile, you’ll see another sign on the left for the canoe launch (one that also tells you that the Palmetto Trail can be accessed near the launch site).

It’s a gorgeous canoe and kayak launch site, with plenty of free parking.  It’s part of (and maintained by) the Francis Marion National Forest.  A nice paddle is the Awendaw Creek Canoe Trail – which is between the Awendaw Creek Canoe Launch and the Buck Hall Recreation Area (where parking costs $5) – on this canoe trail, you spend part of your time on Awendaw Creek and part on the Intracoastal Waterway.

You can find a good map of this section of the Palmetto Trail (called the Awendaw Passage) which shows Awendaw Creek and the Intracoastal Waterway between Rosa Green Rd and Buck Hall over at PalmettoConservation.org.
